FLU CLINICS 2018/19

 
There is a change to the way that Flu Clinics are being provided by the Practice this year. Rather than hold Saturday morning clinics, the decision has been taken to hold special all day clinics on specific days in October and November.
 
The practice will run an emergency service only on Flu Clinic days, however, the prescription line will be open as normal between 8.30am and 11am.
 
The first clinic will be held on Monday, 8 October 2018, with appointments commencing at 8.15am and the last one being 5.30pm. Appointments for this clinic will be available to book from 9am on Tuesday, 25 September 2018 by telephone (019755 62253) or in person at Reception.
 
Another change is that patients will be asked to complete a form on arrival at the Practice so we would request that you arrive 5 minutes earlier than your scheduled appointment time to allow for this.
 
The eligibility criteria for Flu vaccination are:-
 
 Over 65
 Heart disease
 Lung disease (including asthma or COPD)
 Diabetes
 Kidney disease
 Liver disease
 Previous Stroke
 Degenerative disease
 MS
 Pregnant
 Body Mass Index measurement of 40 and above
 Unpaid Carer (if you are an employed carer – please contact your employer)
 Immunocompromising condition, eg receiving chemotherapy/radiotherapy, on DMARD drug etc
 

**Child aged between 2 and 5 (not in school)**

Clinics for children aged between 2 and 5 (not in school) will be held in November as the vaccine is not being delivered to the practice until the end of October.

 
It is very important that you protect yourself with a ‘flu vaccine, even if you feel hale and hearty, and we ask that you make an appointment to have this done at the Surgery.
 
It is equally important to let us know if you do not wish to have a ‘flu vaccination and we would be grateful if you inform Reception on (019755) 62253 so that we can record this in your notes.

Termination of Morning Open Access Service

(as of Monday, 31 July 2017) 

Due to an increase in requests for urgent appointments throughout the day, the morning Open Access service has become unsustainable and the doctors have made the difficult decision to change from a morning walk-in service to a pre-booked appointment system in the morning as well as the afternoon.

The last Open Access surgery will run on Friday, 28 July 2017 with appointment-only surgeries commencing on Monday, 31 July 2017.

A few morning appointments are now available to book for Monday, 31 July 2017 onwards.

Emergencies will always be seen

The Practice will continue to offer on the day appointments for urgent matters that cannot wait until the next free pre-bookable appointment but this may not be with the Minor Ailments practitioner or GP of choice.

These appointments will be spaced throughout the day and will be given out in time order.

The Duty GP will continue to deal with telephone queries throughout the day.

Should you require medical attention during this time, please contact NHS24 on 111 or in the event of an emergency, call 999 immediately. 

In addition to providing 24 hour advice, NHS 24, along with GMED (Grampian Medical Emergency Department) provides emergency cover during the hours of 18:00 and 08:00 when the practice is closed, throughout the weekend and public holidays. If you need medical assistance between these hours, telephone NHS 24 on 111 (if you have any difficulties contacting NHS 24, please dial 100 for the operator).

A receptionist from NHS 24 will answer your call and either:

  • Arrange for you to speak to a doctor or nurse
  • Invite you to attend the centre to be seen by the doctor 
  • Arrange a home visit if you are too ill to visit the centre

Transport to and from the centre may be available if you cannot arrange this yourself. Out of hours cover is the responsibility of the local Health Board. Further advice and information can also be obtained from NHS 24, whom you can contact direct on 111 or by visiting http://www.nhs24.com/

Emergencies

You should call 999 for the following emergencies:-

  • suspected heart attack or severe chest pain or breathlessness
  • loss of consciousness
  • choking and you are unable to help
  • Suspected stroke

Attend the nearest A+E department/Casualty rather than coming to the surgery for any of the following:-

  • a serious injury such as a suspected fracture 
  • head injuries especially if the person has been knocked out
  • bad burns
  • road traffic accidents
  • eye injuries
  • nosebleeds not settling with first aid

 Ever wondered why you couldn’t see the Doctor or Nurse sooner?

 Did you know that, in February 2017:

52 appointments were booked by patients who then failed to attend them

 

24 Doctor appointments – equivalent to TWO afternoon surgeries*

and

28 Nurse appointments – equivalent to TWO morning surgeries*

If, in the future, you are unable to attend, please let us know in advance so that we can offer the appointment to someone else.

Confidentiality & Medical Records

Locked blue folderThe practice complies with data protection and access to medical records legislation. Identifiable information about you will be shared with others in the following circumstances:

  • To provide further medical treatment for you e.g. from district nurses and hospital services.
  • To help you get other services e.g. from the social work department. This requires your consent.
  • When we have a duty to others e.g. in child protection cases anonymised patient information will also be used at local and national level to help the Health Board and Government plan services e.g. for diabetic care.

If you do not wish anonymous information about you to be used in such a way, please let us know.

Reception and administration staff require access to your medical records in order to do their jobs. These members of staff are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as the medical staff.

Information about the General Practioners and the practice required for disclosure under this act can be made available to the public.  All requests for such information should be made to the Practice Manager.

Access to Records

In accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and Access to Health Records Act, patients may request to see their medical records. Such requests should be made through the Practice Manager and may be subject to an administration charge. No information will be released without the patient consent unless we are legally obliged to do so.

Complaints

Customer service formWe make every effort to give the best service possible to everyone who attends our practice.

However, we are aware that things can go wrong resulting in a patient feeling that they have a genuine cause for complaint. If this is so, we would wish for the matter to be settled as quickly, and as amicably, as possible.

To pursue a complaint please contact the Practice Manager who will deal with your concerns appropriately. Further written information is available regarding the complaints procedure from Reception.

Violence Policy

The NHS operate a zero tolerance policy with regard to violence and abuse and the practice has the right to remove violent patients from the list with immediate effect in order to safeguard practice staff, patients and other persons. Violence in this context includes actual or threatened physical violence or verbal abuse which leads to fear for a person’s safety. In this situation we will notify the patient in writing of their removal from the list and record in the patient’s medical records the fact of the removal and the circumstances leading to it.
